A 16year old girl by the name of Shira Banki died today after she was stabbed to death by an ultra-Orthodox man at the Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem on Thursday. Five other people were wounded in the attack. A Gay right group, Jerusalem Open House, said in a statement that the 16 year old girl who was stabbed to death was in critical condition after the incident.

The Statement from Jerusalem Open House about Shira Banki read:

The LGBTQ community in Jerusalem and the Jerusalem Open House mourn her death at the hands of a fanatic, consumed with hatred and fear. The knife that fatally injured Shira was sharpened by years of incitement. That knife targeted all those who believe in a just society, where every woman and man can live freely, without fear of violence and persecution.

The Man who attacked Shira Banki, Yisha Shlissel, was released from prison early about three weeks ago, he was serving a 12-year sentence for attacking and wounding three people at a parade in 2005.
