With all this talk surrounding Drake, Meek Mill and the infamous Quentin Miller, many have seemed to not really care about the reference tracks and Meek’s “ghostwriting” claims, as it’s clear as day that Quentin is credited as a writer on all 3 reference tracks leaked from If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late: “Know Yourself,” “Used To” and “10 Bands.”
However, if you’ll recall, the main cause behind this beef was Meek saying that Drake did not write his verse for their collab on Dreams Worth More Than Money, “R.I.C.O.” A QM reference track for Drake’s verse on that was leaked as well, but many assumed that perhaps he’s credited as a writer on there too. Complex did some digging today, though – and it turns out he’s not.
Suddenly Meek’s ghostwriting claims aren’t so far-fetched. Does this change your stance at all? Let us know!

Back in the day it was all about skills in rap emceeing was fresh and a new experience, so whether or not a artist could write dope raps and spit hot lines was very important, having an ghostwriter meant you couldn’t rap and that you were an imposter in the game. However once an artist established that he was an emcee then people looked the other way when there were a few writer credits on their songs in the album insert. After years in the game you (flex, meek) are accusing the top artist in hiphop at the moment of using a ghostwriter in some of his rap songs, a artist who established himself more as a singer than a rapper during much of his career(lowering the expectations of him vs other rappers), but also much of early work was rap songs written in toronto when the resources weren’t available to purchase writers. You’re not saying he can’t write his raps or that he doesn’t, your saying that sometimes on some songs he either has help or completely CHOOSES not too write. Even back in 1995-1996 that accusation would have limited impact. . In order to have an impact you need to convince us that drake doesn’t write his raps or can’t rap. That he is a fraud, a imposter, a milli vanilli as one of your photoshops displayed earlier this week and the fact is you don’t have the support or evidence to prove that. The fact is Drake’s fanbase is very diverse and many people who rock with drake literally didn’t know who meek mill was prior to all this publicity and therefore did not hear nor care about R.I.C.O. Were in a era of lowered expectations, we are less concerned about how things are done and who people are and more concerned with the product. This is why Chris Brown despite how hated he is still has a career, this is why Rick Ross despite being a C.O still has a career. Compared to those two situations the accusations leveled at drake literally has equal importance too which one of my kids drank the other’s last capri sun. If your gonna go at drake, you need to have something devastating. LAW 15 (48 laws of power) devastating. Because if all of this was about the sanctity of hiphop, you would have done due diligence gone into studio with drake and watched him work before throwing stones.
Agreed
Maybe. We won’t know for sure until he releases something new that’s 100% his, with no help on the writing. If it sucks, he’s milli vanilli. If not, the story is blown out of proportion.
Your comment is spot on… A lotta people acting deluded with these stories, blowing it outta proportion like drake never wrote a verse all his life. When he came with the first mixtape that had the whole game screaming his name and labels fighting to sign him, wasn’t it him(drake) that wrote the whole damn thing. Nail him for the ghostwriting tracks specifically, not come over here and say he doesn’t write anything. Give him some cred and secondly, these hip-hop game sucks. Meek acting like he all gangsta tweet fighting like a bitch but when it’s time to spit a hot beef song, then it’s a problem plus am I the only who feels hip-hop is about getting on the Mic. Twitter jabs don’t count, make it to the booth.and funkflex and hot 97 y’all a disappointment. Y’all are meant to guide and not pick sides, all y’all been doing is blow it outta proportion with the ghostwriting ish. Thanks anyways, I’m unfollowing your pages appropriately. Adios bitches.
Drake is a fake. I don’t know any other rapper that has several reference tracks from an unknown rapper. Drake i think just made rap history. For being the first rapper to use a reference rapper on several hot tracks. This is going to go done in rap history. I think Drake is a joke.
I was a huge Drake supporter, and this is highly upsetting. It’s not to say Drake does not write his own raps or he does not have skill because it’s obvious that the man has pure talent. BUT rap is a form of art unlike any other and rappers who claim to be the best in the game and who want to go down as the greatest CANNOT have ghost writers. It’s just not respected. To most music fans in the world this type of criticism won’t matter, they just want to hear good sounding music no matter who wrote the shit. But to those who see rap as a art and who take being a lyricist seriously Drake has now become a fraud. No rapper should have ghost writers. It’s a form of expression and should come from the individual only. Yes, we all understand Drake is a skillful artist and we also understand that he does write a lot of his music. But he doesn’t write it all so it’s no possible way you can mention him in the same breath as a Pac, Biggie,Nas, Eminem, ect, not now or ever. Not that it matters but I lost a lot of respect from him. That’s just some shit you don’t do as a rapper….but like a said ealier, sadly most people won’t care.
