A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson Karen Parker says the woman swam to a more secluded area and was attacked. The 37-year-old woman informed investigators that something in the water grabbed her arm and pulled her under water. When nearby kayakers were aware she was being attacked, they started hitting the alligator with paddles. Fortunately, the woman’s cries made others cognizant and helped bring her to shore.

One witness said, “You just saw some blood and some bone. There wasn’t anything else there.”

Spokesperson Parker informed the public the woman was taken to Orlando Medical Center and lost her right arm below the elbow. Thankfully, she did not suffer any other injuries in this incident.

Parker also said the alligator has not been found, but officials are looking for it. It will be killed once found.

The woman is now in recovery.
