Yes, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, and Ralph Tresvant, along with their longtime manager Brooke Payne, will co-produce the as-of-now untitled New Edition biopic. Earlier this year, fans were working hard to make something like this happen for the group, and now, it’s a go.

The “Candy Girl” crooners of the 80s have linked up with Jesse Collins, executive producer, and screenwriter Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) to create BET’s first ever scripted, music-based TV movie, according to rolling out. The New Edition biopic will be broken don into a three-part miniseries that shows the impact of the group, on fans and other boy bands.

“When I brought the idea to BET years ago, I wanted to create a film that would tell the story of how New Edition emerged into one of the most important groups of its generation,” Collins said. Well, it looks as if it’s going to happen.

“Now that we have signed the deal, New Edition’s journey will be captured in a three-night miniseries to tell our life story through our very own eyes. We are happy to have New Edition Enterprises collaborate with BET Networks’ Debra Lee and Stephen Hill along with Jesse Collins Entertainment. From our beginning in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to Hollywood and everything in between, just like The Temptations and The Jackson Five — we are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here. For the fans all over the world, this one’s for you.”

I know you’re wondering ‘where does Bobby Brown come in?’ Unfortunately, it seems as though he will not be a part of the process. Unlike the others, he was not listed as a co-producer.

So again, are you ready for the New Edition biopic? While I will be watching – it is NEW EDITION – I’m not too sure about BET being the backbone of this project. Just a little bit iffy. Besides, no Bobby Brown … ION!

There has been no announced director and filming is scheduled to begin sometime in 2016. It’s still a work-in-progress.
