Now that David Letterman has moved on from The Late Show, it’s now another man’s turn. Beginning September 8, we can look forward to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Already, Colbert has revealed Kendrick Lamar as the first musical guest with him as the new night host.

During a speech he’d made for the Television Critics Association, Colbert announced the news, claiming that the move was only the right one to make since Kendrick closed out his final episode of, The Colbert Report.

Kendrick Lamar: The 1st Musical Guest On “The Late Show”

On The Colbert Report’s finale, K. Dot performed “Untitled,” a track that he’d written the night before.

“We came with that the day before at rehearsal,” said the L.A. native. “He didn’t want to do ‘i.’ Let’s just, you know, fly out to New York. Let’s rehearse in New York and get that energy and do something a little different.” Because the track was fresh from Kendrick’s mental oven, Terrace and beatsmith Thundercat found themselves forgetting the arrangement and freestyled their way through the song (that’s probably where the saxophone solo from Terrace was so raw).”

Talent.

Well, I’m ready for any performance Kendrick is giving, so …. let’s go!
