Janelle Monae has spoken out about police brutality and the black community pretty frequently recently, but her message was cut short during her latest performance at the TODAY show. Janelle Monae performed Friday morning to promote the release of the Eephus, an EP featuring artists from her label ‘Wondaland’ like Jidenna and rock band Deep Cotton. Going towards the end of her live performance on the TODAT show, Janelle Monae took some time out to speak on police brutality but cameras promptly turned away for commercial break.

The only part of Janelle Monae’s speech that was caught was:

“Yes Lord! God bless America! God bless all the lost lives to police brutality,” she said. “We want white America to know that we stand tall today. We want black America to know we stand tall today. We will not be silenced…”

While Janelle Monae’s message wasn’t televised, the singer has held rallies in New York and Philly this week, speaking out against police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. Janelle Monae also released “Hell You Talmbout”, which is a song dedicated to Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Aiyana Jones, and anybody else who has lost there lives through police brutality.
