Most teens do not realize the power of social media these days. An Arizona teen got a wake up call this week after posting a snapchat that landed him in handcuffs. The snapchat featured a crowded hallway of Sierra Linda High School with the caption “planning the school shooting.” This news comes shortly after another teen was arrested this week for posting lyrics to an Eminem song that reference the 1999 Columbine shooting on his Instagram page.

The frightening Snapchat was sent to another teen all the way in Colorado who reported it to her school. She said, “I didn’t want to assume it was a joke because if I would have woken up today and seen that he really did shoot up a school, I know how bad I would have felt if I know I could possibly have stopped it.” After saving the image, 16 year-old Kaylee reached out to the sender who told her he went to Sierra Linda High School, 800 miles away in Arizona.

Police have not identified the teen because he is a minor however, they have charged him with one count of creating a hoax, which is a class 4 felony. The boy has admitted to sending the snapchat but claims it was a joke.
