A 16 year old boy by the name of Emilio Mayfield, was on his way to school when he got stopped by a police officer for jaywalking.

More of the story below…

Video footage has been circling around social media that involved Emilio Mayfield and a bunch of police officers, 9 of them to be exact. The teen from Stockton, California stated that he was on his way to school and he jaywalked so he could hurry up and catch the bus before it left.

Edgar Avendano, which happened to be a witness of the whole incident, backed up the boys claims.

“He was 2 feet away from the sidewalk when the cop stopped him… The cop was telling him to take a seat but the teen kept walking to his bus but the cop kept grabbing his arm and the kid took off the cop’s hand from his arm so the cop took out his baton & that’s when I started recording because everything happened too quick.”

He also added that the police officer’s body cam was on the floor as he hit the teen in his jaw with the baton because he resisted arrest. Mayfield started to cry and then 8 more cops pulled up on the scene. It took 4 cops to wrestle a little boy to the ground and the other 5 to stand watch. In the video all you hear in the background is a woman screaming “he’s a f*cking kid!” and begging them to stop.

Joseph Silva, a Stockton Police Officer spoke with VICE news and told them that Mayfield was walking in a bus lane and didn’t respond to the cop’s order to get out of the street. “For safety reasons, the officer told the young man to get on the sidewalk. After the teenager refused to comply and used obscene language, the officer went over and there was a scuffle.”

That initial part of their encounter is unclear because the arresting officer’s cam was knocked off. Therefore, footage from what caused the arrest to even take place will not be released since it’s being investiaged.

“Anytime an officer uses force there’s an automatic administrative review, the preliminary investigation is showing that the officers were within our policy…If everyone would just comply with lawful orders from the police, we wouldn’t have to use force in the first place,” explained Silva.

Mayfield was later released to his mother and received 2 citations, one for resisting arrest and the other for trespassing.
