Ben Roethlisberger is not someone that fans hear about too often. He is generally very low-key and some might even call him “under the radar.” Well, not this week.
The NFL did an investigation on Roethlisberger following accusations of him using his cell phone during Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Football fans everywhere were more than excited to see Michael Vick back on the field, following a stint in jail for dog fighting and multiple injuries after that. Whether you’re a fan of his or not, it was definitely something we weren’t expecting.
Well, former starting QB, Ben Roethlisberger was accused of looking less than enthused while sitting on the sidelines due to injury. Allegedly, Roethlisberger was seen on his phone and people were very quick to judge.
After the NFL’s investigation, it was stated that he was not, in fact, on his phone, but he was, instead, looking at a wristband. Quarterbacks generally wear a wristband with all of the team’s offensive plays printed on a small sheet of paper, and slipped inside the wristband. The band has a clear, plastic window that allows the QB to call the shots on the field without having to memorize each play or trying to communicate solely from the sideline.
Using a phone on the sidelines in definitely not permitted in the NFL and could be grounds for suspension if one is suspected of cheating.
Luckily for the Steelers QB, snapshots taken of him with the band have clarified that he has not broken any rules and will not see any disciplinary actions.
