After the 9/11 bombings in 2001, the government has taken precautions against flying in certain areas of the nation’s capitol. Though they are prohibited as a part of these precautions, a small drone landed near the White House, early Friday morning.

A drone is an unmanned aircraft that can be controlled remotely or set to land/strike at a specific place. Drones are generally used for surveillance and have been featured on multiple primetime shows as a weapon. Drones can carry missels that are scheduled or programmed to strike a target at a certain time. That is why White House officials heightened security Friday morning when a small drone landed a little too close for comfort.

According to Sergeant Anna Rose, two people had been flying the aircraft around the Washington monument before landing. while the Federal Aviation association issued a “no drone zone” campaign in June, with federal fines starting at $25,000, no details on this morning’s incident have been disclosed.

The White House has not made any statement regarding the drone and its breach of protocol, though we will keep you updated as more information is released.
