El Chapo is notorious for being the leader of the most dangerous Mexican drug cartel. He is also infamous for toying with government officials and has a record of successful escape plans. Escaping federal prisons in both 2001 and 2015, El Chapo has become the most wanted man in Mexico.

Approximately, 35 people have been arrested and held responsible for assisting Guzman in the 2015 escape where an underground tunnel was built from the outside into his prison cell.

In September, Chapo’s son posted a picture on Instagram that insinuated his father’s location. The photo showed three men sitting at table, Alfredo Guzman (Chapo’s son), is seated in between two others, whose faces are covered by large emoji symbols. Alfredo captioned the picture saying,

“Comfortable here, you already know with who.”

The photo is tagged with the location “Costa Rica” but officials were not sure if he was actually there or in a city close to Chapo’s base in Mexico, called Costa Rica.

Officials set up an operation to seize El Chapo that reportedly left him with injuries to his face and leg though it has not been confirmed as to if he is in federal custody.

Both the U.S. and Mexican governments have offered large rewards for information leading to El Chapo’s arrest.
