According to police, the crash was witnessed by an off-duty official. When the crash happened, Jones took off running, but returned to the car for some cash. During his retreat for the money, Jones allegedly left behind a marijuana pipe.

In September, Jones was due to spend time in jail for his fleeing from the accident, but was sentenced to 18-months probation and community service hours, instead.

Jones stated,

“I am thankful to be able to do what I love once again and I look forward to proving myself as a champion in and outside of the octagon.”

UFC Chairmen, Lorenzo Fertitta also made a statement to clarify that this is a second chance, not a gift.

“We’ve made it clear to Jon that this new opportunity to compete in UFC is a privilege and not a right, and that there are significant expectations we have regarding his conduct moving forward. We’re happy to read and see reports that he has embraced the terms of his plea agreement and is using this experience to grow and develop as a person.”
