The plague is curable when treated with antibiotics. However, it must be caught in the early stage to do so. The teen went hunting where he was bit by a flea. This is when the plague apparently happened. She was bit on October 16 and hospitalized on October 24. She is currently being treated at Crook County ICU. Authorities have alerted anyone who plans on going camping to avoid rodents like chipmunks and squirrels.

So far, this is the only case that has been seen in Oregon so far. Hopefully, no one else will contact the plague. Wasn’t even aware that this plague even still existed. There has been a case of 11 Bubonic Plagues this year. This is a high number for this year actually.. Out of those 11 people, three have died.

Emilio DeBess, state public health veterinarian says,

“Fortunately, plague remains a rare disease, but people need to take appropriate precautions with wildlife and their pets to keep it that way.”

There is no update on the girls condition, but hopefully she gets better soon.
