Daniel Fleetwood wished to see the upcoming “The Force Awakens” before his lung cancer killed him. With the help of Mark Hamill and Peter Mayhew his wish came true. He died days later. Hit the jump to find out how they made it happen.

Daniel Fleetwood was 32 when he died. His wife Ashley said 90% of his lungs had cancer before he died. The pair posted on Facebook that his dying wish was to see “The Force Awakens.” 5,500 people reposted his message, eventually sending it towards Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca.)

Through their efforts, director J.J. Abrams made the exquisitely rare decision to allow the request. Abrams show Fleetwood an unfinished version of the movie.

Fleetwood died days later, happy and in his sleep. His wife says he remains her “idol and hero.”
