Karowe mine, 300 miles from Botswana’s capitol Gaborone. Lucara Diamond found it. William Lamb, CEO of Canadian diamond producer Lucara Diamond, commented: “The significance of the recovery of a gem quality stone larger than 1,000 carats, the largest for more than a century… cannot be overstated,”

For perspective, the diamond Kim Kardashian West flaunts is only about 22-carats. 1,111-carats would probably break her hand set as a ring.

The largest diamond ever found came from South Africa in 1905: the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond. However, this diamond got cut up into 9 smaller pieces. Most of them are now owned by the U.K. as part of the British Crown Jewels.
