Italy and France are also mentioned in the video. ISIS publicized this video right before NYC goes into holiday mode. The Thanksgiving Parade fast approaches as well as the Christmas Tree Lighting at Rockefeller Center December 2nd, 2015. ISIS’ media department, Furat Media Center, released the video.

This could just be a bluff from ISIS. Maybe they figured out that threatened NYC- if not immediately attainable- would scare tourists and hurt NYC’s piggy bank. But, then again ISIS has never been graceful. They probably just wanted to scared the U.S.

Police Commissioner William Bratton first deemed the video “hastily produced,” but later claimed the video was a rerun from long ago. While that would be convenient, few others agree. Bratton said this immediately after watching, most likely due to the old NYC shots used within the video. French President Francois Hollande’s address also screened in the video, and this occurred just after Paris attacks commenced.

Bratton warned citizens,

“Be aware, but do not be afraid. The NYPD will protect you.  We cannot be intimidated, and that’s what terrorists seek to do. They seek to create fear. They seek to intimidate. We will not be intimidated, and we will not live in fear.”

Mayor Bill De Blasio had this to say, “Continue to go to work, live their lives, and enjoy the greatest city in the world.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo also commented. He urged state agencies to “enhance their preparedness.” NYC security definitely heightened with three times as many checkpoints in place.
