While many college campuses are against carrying a concealed weapon on campus, Virgina Liberty University’s President Falwell feels the opposite with all that has been going on.

“I always thought that if more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walk in and kill.”

This comment alone sparked an uproar in the crowd at LU’s weekly Friday-night convocation. Falwell is the son of the late evangelist, conservative political activist and Liberty University founder.

Falwell’s remarks about carrying guns on campus to protect yourself sparked an interest from Ibrahim Hooper of the Council on Islamic-American Relations who said Falwell’s comments “amped up” inflammatory rhetoric toward Muslims.

“It’s part of an overall toxic anti-Muslim atmosphere that we’re seeing, particularly in the past few weeks with Paris and San Bernardino. Anti-Muslim bigotry was still on the fringes after 9/11. But it’s moving toward the mainstream thanks to Donald Trump, Ben Carson and these type of comments.”

University President Falwell also disagrees with President Obama that our country needs more gun control, stating it’s an overall bad idea:

“It just blows my mind when I see the President of the United States say that the answer to circumstances like this is more gun control.”

Falwell encouraged students further by stating he had a gun “in my back pocket right now” and “to get your permit”. Liberty University houses 14,500 students on its Lynchburg, Virginia, campus, tallies over 95,000 enrolled students online, and offers a free gun training course for it’s students.

This does not mean just anybody can carry a gun on campus – Virginia law states you have to be 21 to get a concealed carry permit and even those with permits are not permitted to bring guns into dorms.

When speaking on the unfortunate San Bernardino shooting, Falwell was quoted saying:

“I want us to be prepared. And let’s teach them, if they ever show up here.”
