Lady Gaga got really deep and personal during a panel she was apart of. The panel was was a TimesTalks panel that included big names such as, Diane Warren, Kirby Dick, and Amy Ziering.
She spoke about her new song “Till it Happens to You,” that goes along with her documentary that stems along campus rapes “The Hunting Ground.”

While on the panel, she spoke about her own personal experiences with rape. Gaga went in and shared her account of being raped at 19 years old. She talked about how she thought it was all her fault and what it did to her physically and emotionally. She said,

“It changed my body; it changed my thoughts. When you go through a trauma like that, it doesn’t just have the immediate physical ramifications on you. I didn’t know how to even think about it. I didn’t know how to accept it. I didn’t know how not to blame myself, or think it was my fault. That was a big part of it for me. Because of the way that I dress, and the way that I’m provocative as a person, I thought that I had brought it upon myself in some way; that it was my fault.”

Gaga says she wants other survivors too know that it is okay to feel the way she felt. Hopefully survivors will find comfort in Gaga’s song and will choose not to blame themselves for such horrible events like rape which they had no control over.
