Enrique Marquez, 24, the neighbor and former friend of San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook, has been arrested and charged with “defrauding immigration authorities by entering into a sham marriage with a member of Farook’s family” and conspiracy to provide material support for acts of terrorism, which were to take place in 2011 and 2012.

According to officials, in 2011, Marquez purchased the two “assault rifles” used in the San Bernardino massacre along with a pair of hand guns. During the time, he was allegedly to participate in an act of terrorism on a community college that he and Farook attended.

“While there currently is no evidence that Mr. Marquez participated in the Dec. 2, 2015 attack or had advance knowledge of it, his prior purchase of the firearms and ongoing failure to warn authorities about Farook’s intent to commit mass murder had fatal consequences,” said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker of the Central District of California.

Following the massacre that killed 14 and injured 22 others, Marquez dialed 911 and said that he was ready to commit suicide because his neighbor had used his gun in the shooting. “My neighbor,” he said. “He did the San Bernardino shooting.”

Marquez was fully cooperative with officials on revealing information about the shooters, Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik.
