Happy Birthday Aaliyah!! The beautiful R&B singer would have been 37 years old today. Its been almost 15 years since we lost Aaliyah to a plane crash back in 2001. Although she is no longer with us, her legacy still lives on through music. With the help of many artist such as Timbaland, who was a close friend of Aaliyah’s and Drake, Aaliyah’s voice will never be forgotten.
Singer, actress, dancer, model, Aaliyah was defintely a woman of many hats! Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born in Brooklyn,NY and raised in Detroit, Michigan. At just 10 years old Aaliyah went on Star Search and got a chance to go on Star Search and even performed alongside Gladys Knight. Aaliyah was truly an idol to many.
Back in 2013 Chris Brown blessed fans with his song “Don’t Think They Know” which featured some Aaliyah ad-libs. Drake did the same in his 2013 song “Enough Said.” Timbaland said in a interview all that is cool and dandy but it isn’t better than a song with her soulmate which is him.
“People always say, ‘I’m going to do a song with Aaliyah’. It will never work. Chris Brown got a record, it won’t work. Drake can go do a record with Aaliyah, it ain’t gonna work. Aaliyah music only work with its soulmate, which is me.”
No matter who the song is done with, Aaliyah will always be a major influence to the music game. Aaliyah is a role model to many artist even today. Ciara, Missy Elliot and more will gladly tell you how much of a influence Aaliyah has had on their music. Drake never hid his obsession with Aaliyah. He went as far as getting her face tattooed on his back.
