45 killed and 110 wounded by a car bomb and two suicide bombers in Sayeda Zeinab district of Damascus on Sunday. The bombing took place where Syria’s holiest Shi’ite shrine is located. Isis took responsibility for this bombing. According to Amaq, a news agency that supports the group, said the bomb “hit the most important stronghold of Shi’ite militias in Damascus.”

A group of militants set off the car bomb near a public transportation garage. Two suicide bombers also blew themselves up as people were being rescued from the bombing. Eyewitnesses say,

“Bodies were still being pulled from the wreckage.”

Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halaki believes that the attacks were caused by “terror groups who sought to raise their morale after a string of defeats.”
