A man is suing the California lottery after he claims that he bought a $63 million winning ticket and was told the ticket was “too damaged” and not eligible for the jackpot. Brandy Milliner of Los Angeles claims he purchased the ticket at a 7-Eleven in Chatsworth, California, back in August 2015, which matched the six winning numbers. He claims, upon bringing the ticket to lottery officials he was given a congratulatory note and a photocopy of his ticket. However six months later, Milliner received another yet from lottery officials retracting his win, saying his ticket was “too damaged.”

According to lottery officials, the jackpot which has a value of $63 million or a lump-sum of $39.9 million, the largest unclaimed prize in California lottery history and they say Milliner’s claim was never received. This is a huge issue for both Milliner and the state as it has been determined that someone did buy a winning ticket back in August but nobody has shown up to claim the prize. If the prize goes unclaimed the money will go to California public schools.

The winning numbers were 46-1-33-30-16, with a Mega number of 24. An employee,at the 7-Eleven where it was sold, described the ticket as “torn, washed, a little burned. You can’t see the numbers. You can’t even read the bar code.”
