Doc Rivers is fed up with getting burned by referees bad calls only to have the refs apologize after the fact. It has happened a few times now according to him which is why he thinks it is time for NBA coaches to be able to challenge a call from the ref, just like how NFL coaches can.

Sure a referee or the league itself can apologize after the fact for a bad call but if that call caused you to lose the game, well you can see why an apology wouldn’t help things much.

Rivers thinks the time is now for coaches to be able to challenge calls they don’t agree with.

“I’ve been pushing for a [challenge] flag for a year now,” Rivers said. “We should have a challenge flag. That is the third time this year [against the Clippers] that [the NBA] has come back and said it was a bad call. It doesn’t do anything for us.”

It actually isn’t a terrible idea but it wouldn’t be able to work the same way. It would absolutely kill the speed of the game. ALso, when it comes to pretty much any game or sport but especially basketball, one specific call or play is rarely the reason that a team lost.

Can’t blame a coach though for wanting more control.
