You first heard of Royce Da 5’9″ back in 1999 on a collaboration with Eminem called “Bad Meets Evil”. Now you’ll hear of the first time Eminem and Royce collided – to a pretty comical introduction. Hit the jump.

During an interview with XXL, Royce opened up about how his manager, Kino, introduced the two.

“Kino was like, ‘Let me introduce you. This is Eminem. So I was like, ‘Waddup, man? How you doing? I like your shit.’ And he was like, Dog. Did you just say, “I’m iller than standing in front of a gorilla holding a banana?”‘ [Laughs] That’s a line that I said when I was on stage, I said it a cappella. I was on my Canibus shit back then [laughs]. So I was like ‘Yeah’ and he was like, ‘Yo, man, that’s fucking ill.’ I was like, ‘Thanks, man.’”

Of course Em would introduce himself like that lol. The two would go on to re-record their first collab “Bad Meets Evil” and have it on Eminem’s classic Slim Shady LP once he signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label. The two remain a tight-knit relationship even though falling out for a few years before burying the hatchet in 2008.

And of course you know of Slaughterhouse and the rest is history.
