Wow…imagine what life would have been like for Kanye West if his classic debut album The College Dropout didn’t do as well as it had? Before making a believer out of everyone in the music industry, Ye was almost let go by the labels that helped him amass his future. Hit the jump for the details.

Kareem “Bigs” Burke helped found Roc-A-Fella Records along with Jay-Z & Dame Dash back when. Well Biggs just revealed in a recent interview that the label hadn’t believed Ye was going to go anywhere until his debut album proved everyone wrong:

“Me and Kanye would have long, long, long conversations. And you know, he had the idea for the next two or three albums after. So, I seen the genius of what he was trying to create. So, I would actually go back and talk to Dame. And Dame was just being at the forefront and would go argue with Lyor [Cohen]. Lyor didn’t believe in him at the time. They wanted to drop Kanye and the Young Gunz. They was like, ‘Take ’em some place else.’ And then we went to Capitol. And they was, you know, we thought they was kind of idiots at the time. We was like, ‘We might as well keep it over here at Def Jam’ and that’s how he ended up staying there.”

Part of the problem was that Kanye’s lead single “Through The Wire” wasn’t doing as well as they thought it was going to, until they gave it some time and literally the rest is history. What do you think would have happened to Ye’s future if The College Dropout hadn’t seen such success?
