IFWT_Yeethoven

If there is anything in this world that would fill Kanye’s head more than it’s already filled, I think this would be it. Imagine a world where the musical masterpieces of Beethoven are combined with the innovating “Yeezus”. Well, thats exactly what composers Yuga Cohler Stephen Feigenbaum are doing, giving us the thought-provoking and eye-catching “Yeethoven”.

“Classical music is tight yo”

Kanye tweeted those words years back. Who would’ve thought we’d actually get a combination of the two though. That’s exactly what happened when Yuga Cohler was offered the position of director and conductor of the Young Musicians Foundation (YMF). Being the youngest to ever graduate from Juilliard’s orchestral conducting program, reflects in his crazy ideas of mixing popular culture and technology with his classical background. He looked for something innovating and what better person to turn to for innovation than Yeezy himself. Co-composer Stephen Feigenbaum said:

“Yeezus appealed to both of us as something that transcended genre, and had more in common with some of our favorite classical music than it did with other hip-hop records. People that love classical music would love things about Yeezus but they won’t listen to it necessarily because it’s a different genre. So we wanted to say, ‘We don’t care, to us it’s the same thing in some ways,’ which is why we’re doing this concert.”

Cohler says the concert will contain many back-and-forth exchanges between Beethoven works and Yeezus songs that mesh well and/or sound strikingly similar. Like Beethoven’s famous 5th symphony with “I’m In It”, Beethoven’s “14 String Quartet” with “On Sight”, and so on. Will this catch Kanye’s eye? Probably. Would Kanye be down for a colab? Most likely. We’ll just have to wait and see.

They’re first show is scheduled for today at the Aratani Theatre in LA. Now, I know their organizaiton is set in the West Coast, but one important question still stands… When ya coming to New York?
