It’s no secret why when some of the younger generation hear Prince, their second thought is Dave Chappelle (The first is Purple Rain obviously) because of the well known Chappelle show skit where he was dressed as Prince in the “Shirts vs Blouse” basketball game narrated by Charlie Murphy which you can see at the end of this post.
Dave Chappelle had a show in San Francisco where he addressed the death of Prince during his stand up.
“This is the black 9/11” he said. “I almost thought about not coming tonight but my band was like, ‘Yo Prince wouldn’t condone that.'”
The media was calling him all day for his take, but of course he wouldn’t take their calls.
“I kept wondering all day, ‘Why are they calling me?’ I’ll tell you what, I didn’t know him well, but I knew him well.”
After, Chappelle had his band play covers of Prince’s music for four hours.
