Personally, I’m still of the mindset that Cam Newton did nothing wrong with the way he interacted with the media after losing Super Bowl 50. We shove microphones and cameras in players faces that just lost the biggest game of their lives and expect them to think and act rationally, without even giving them some time to reflect. The majority of people however, thought Cam was a sore loser and unprofessional with the way he walked off his interview and in a new edition of Ebony magazine, Cam seems to agree with some of those people, although he has his own reasons for why he should have handled things better.

“The truth is, I represent something way bigger than myself,” Newton told the magazine. “I’m doing it for [my fans and family] and I felt like I let them down.”

Newton reflected back to that night while speaking to Ebony. Most people don’t realize that while he and his teammates were sitting there being bombarded with questions about “how does it feel to lose a game like this” the Broncos were celebrating in the exact same room, only divided by a curtain. So Cam was able to hear all the joyous and happy times coming from the Broncos, while he was still upset and had questions being thrown at him.

“Who is anyone to tell me, ‘Man, it’s just an interview’?” Newton asked. “You haven’t been in that situation. You didn’t have millions of people watching you. Your heart wasn’t pumping [with] the embarrassment or the anxiety of the stress of dealing with that type of game.

“I just wasn’t ready to talk. Was I mad? Hell, yeah! But there could have been a better way to control it, and that’s why I think having more time would have helped.”

Salute to Cam for being able to realize he could have done things better but for his own reasons and nobody else’s.
