The final sequence in the Thunder v. Spurs game 2 was one of the most bizarre I’ve ever seen.  Thunder led the game 98-97 with 13.5 seconds left and had possession of the ball.  Dion Waiters tried to inbound the ball while Manu Ginobli played defense.  Waiters then threw the ball in to Kevin Durant but Durant was stripped by Danny Green who passed the ball ahead to Patty Mills who passed it to Manu Ginobli, who kicked it back to Mills who missed the ensuing three-point attempt.  LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard scrambled for the rebound but the buzzer went off and the game was over.  The referee later admitted to missing the offensive foul committed by Waiters but a ton more happened those last few seconds.

“On the floor, we did not see a foul on the play,” lead referee Ken Mauer told a pool reporter. “However, upon review we realize and we agree we should have had an offensive foul on the play. It’s a play we’ve never seen before, ever. We should have had an offensive foul on the play.”

Waiters used his elbow to create space between him and Ginobli so he could pass the ball to Durant.  Had the offensive foul been called, Spurs would’ve gotten possession.  What others are arguing however is that Ginobli stepped over the line and also, Leonard was pulling on Westbrook’s jersey as he was coming over.

One other thing missed was the Spurs fan holding onto Steven Adams’ arm after he rushed over to defend Mills’ three-point attempt.  From the view I seen, it’s unclear if the person was trying to get back up after Adams crashed into them, or were they deliberately trying to hold his arm.

In any event, way too much happened and wasn’t called for Spurs fans to complain about the missed call on Waiters.  The result is something everyone just has to live with and prepare for game 3.  The series is currently tied 1-1.
