Reports from earlier today sent the sports world into a frenzy as possible details on a mega fight with Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor were revealed. First question everyone had is how could it even happen given Floyd is a boxer and McGregor is under contract with UFC? The more details you read however, it became less about how it would happen and more about WHEN it would happen as it seems like close to a done deal. Not so fast says UFC owner, Dana White, who pretty much laughed off the report.

“It’s not true; it’s just a tabloid story,” White said. “And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired and he’s been on a world-wide vacation and hasn’t even been thinking of fighting.”
Now, as funny as it sounds, just because White says that still doesn’t mean it’s not true. He and McGregor aren’t exactly seeing eye to eye right now and it would be hard to see White making positive comments about a possible fight that McGregor could have outside of the UFC while he basically sticks his middle finger up at White.
You would have to assume however that White would have to at least sign off on the fight for it to happen given McGregor’s current contract with UFC but then again who knows. Also, the reported money the fighters would get is so lopsided in Floyd’s favor, it would be hard to see McGregor agreeing to that but Floyd definitely would earn a much bigger chunk of the money regardless.
Earlier today, McGregor’s trainer, John Kavanagh decided to troll us on twitter while reports of the fight were swirling. At this point, your guess is as good as ours if this will happen but it would make history no doubt about it.
