The sports world went crazy yesterday when reports said that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor were working towards a mega fight later this year in Vegas. It would be a dream fight for fans but with Conor under contract with UFC and the two different styles of fighting, most people believed the reports were baseless. In a twist however, Floyd’s dad is claiming that his son has been talking to him about making something happen with an MMA fighter and that it could happen before the end of this year!

All the boxing writers and enthusiasts went crazy when the reports went public, shooting them down as tall tales and complete fiction. UFC owner, Dana White, echoed those same sentiments later in the day when he said it wasn’t happening either, although he has personal reasons to deny it if it was true.

Then there was the troll job on twitter by McGregor’s trainer, John Kavanagh and by the end of the day, the story did wind up feeling more like there wasn’t much to it, other than a few reports and sources jumping the gun. Later at night however, Floyd Mayweather Sr spoke about all the buzz and he wasn’t so quick to shoot it down, in fact, he gave the rumors even more strength.

He told EsNews that his son told him he’s going to take another fight, possibly against “some kind of MMA fighter.”

Though he didn’t initially mention McGregor, when asked specifically if he’s the fighter in question, Mayweather Sr. locked in his prediction for the hypothetical matchup.

“We’d beat the hell out of that man,” Mayweather Sr. said, according to Anton Tabuena of Bloody Elbow. “My son can whoop him. He’s dead.

When pressed for more details, Floyd Sr said “I really don’t know exactly when, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to come around soon, It won’t be that long.”

Keep in mind, Floyd Sr. does love to hear himself talk so him saying all of this still doesn’t mean there is a fight on the horizon but it will keep those reports and rumors alive for a time being.
