Every since Colorado legalized Marijuana in 2012, they have received a huge economic boost. The city now has extra money to spend. They decided the best way to spend the money is on the homeless. Aurora, Colorado received $4.5 million in tax from Marijuana. $1.5 million of that money will be used to help the less fortunate.

$220,000 will be donated to the Colfax Community Network. That is a non-profit company that serves as a help to low income families living in motels and apartments. The company was founded back in 1991. They provide families living in local motels with clothing, food, toiletries, diapers and more. Nancy Sheffield, director of Aurora neighborhood services released a statement saying,

“The Colfax Community Network is in extremely dire straits in that they do not have funds to continue operating.”

Officials have also agreed to give Comitis Crisis Center and Aurora Mental Health a van which will cost about $92,000 each. An additional $4,000 will be used to find workers to operate the van.
