As each day passes by I think more and more people are losing their minds. Court documents that were revealed on Friday that a North Carolina man ripped off a Muslim woman’s hijab and yelled “This is America!” during a flight on Southwest Airlines in December. Gil Parker Payne, 37, pleaded guilty in a New Mexico federal court to a misdemeanor hate crime charge of using force to obstruct the Muslim woman’s free exercise of her religious beliefs. According to court documents, Payne boarded a flight from Chicago to Albuquerque when he seen a woman wearing a hijab sitting a few rows in front of him. Payne walked up to the woman towards the end of the flight and stood next to the her and said “Take it off! This is America!” before ripping her hijab off her head.

The woman did not know Payne and felt violated and quickly put her hijab back on. Coincidentally, the incident on this flight came just three days after Donald Trump called for Muslims to be banned from entering the United States.

Payne’s attorney entered his plea agreement saying that he will be called to do two months of home detention. A forthcoming sentencing hearing will determine the lengths and conditions of his probation. Payne’s lawyer made a statement saying

“Mr. Payne has taken responsibility for his actions and he’s sorry for them. He’s ready to begin the healing process and move forward.”
