Khloe Kardashian apparently takes her faith very seriously and discussed it in relation to her marriage to former NBA player Lamar Odom. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star wrote an essay about her Christian faith for Tuesday’s edition of Lena Dunham’s Lenny newsletter. In it, Khloe defended her decision to divorce Lamar Odom in 2013 after four years of marriage. “I’ve been blessed with a lot in my life, and I’ve also had challenges,” said Khloe.  “It was a challenge for me when I decided to get divorced.”  There were rumors of Odom’s infidelity along with the issues of drug addiction. As things got worse, Khloe revealed that she was faced with a tough choice.

“At my core, I don’t believe in divorce,” she explained. “But I came to a point in my marriage where I had to make the choice to take care of my own mental and emotional well-being in order to protect myself and my happiness. I am at peace with that decision and do feel like I honored my vows to the very end. I feel that I kept the serious vows I made in front of God with every inch of my heart, which is why I am still honoring them today even though my relationship with my ex-husband is in a different place. I believe in caring for my partner—past or present—’in sickness and in health,’ and feel at peace with my relationship with God even after the fact. I’m thankful that I can rely on my God, who, along with my family, has led me through some of the most difficult times of my life.”

Although she refers to Odom as her ex-husband, divorce proceedings have since stalled after he was hospitalized in the fall of 2015 after suffering a near-fatal drug overdose.

Some may question Khloe’s definition of honoring her vows since she’s had relationships with French Montana and James Harden while still married.

Khloe further described her spirituality.

“Believing in a higher power is what guides me to make the right decisions. While I believe in heaven and hell and angels and spirits, I don’t judge people for their beliefs. And I don’t understand how others can sit around casting judgments on people because they have different religions and a certain point of view.” However, the E! reality star doesn’t subscribe to one faith in particular. “I don’t believe you need to be a certain religion to embrace someone else’s religion. It’s a matter of respecting someone,” she said. “I’m a Christian but I don’t think a church necessarily makes you religious.”

She says she hasn’t found a church she’s passionate about yet but read daily devotionals that contain Bible quotes.
