Lately there seems to be an influx of old, retired NBA players who want to discredit the current era of the NBA. They want to believe the time they played back in the 90′, 80’s or even earlier, was the best and had the best players. They usually like to narrow in on Steph Curry and explain how he would have no chance to do what he does now had he been playing in the past. No matter what they say, they all come off like bitter, out of touch guys but at least one legend from a previous era, Larry Bird, is pretty certain he is currently watching the best era ever!

In an interview with the New Yorker, Bird was asked how he feels about a four point shot eventually coming into play considering how many three pointers are being taken nowadays. Bird thankfully had a surprising take on this era as a whole.

“It’s funny how the game has changed,” Bird continued. “And my thinking about it. I was really worried—back sixteen, seventeen years ago—that the little guy didn’t have a spot in the N.B.A. anymore: it was just going to be the big guards like Magic Johnson. But then players started shooting more threes and spacing the court, and everyone wants small guards now. Watching these kids play now, I’m like everybody else: Wow, man. They can really shoot! They have more freedom to get to the basket. The ball moves a little better. These kids are shooting from farther, with more accuracy. Now some teams shoot up around thirty threes a game. My era, you always think that’s the greatest era. But I’m not so sure anymore.”

Now Bird played with Magic, Michael, Ewing, Malone, Stockton, Drexler, Kareem and so on and for him to be open minded enough to at least consider the current era may be better is refreshing.
