Just five days ago Deshauna Barber was crowned Miss USA 2016. Even with that newfound popularity, all social media wasn’t happy about the new Miss USA. On Facebook numerous users started to comment “She doesn’t look American” and “We should have a traditional Miss USA”. As if being born and raised in America and serving our country in the Army isn’t as patriotic and American as any other crowned. Users also said “She looks Nigerian or something?” Like President Barack Obama ancestral background doesn’t lead back to Kenya. The backlash also stems from Miss Universe Japan back from March, who is the first biracial winner in contest history. Ariana Miyamoto was born to a Japanese mother and an African-American father who is a Japanese citizen, but the 20-year-old is facing criticism for being hāfu, or half-Japanese. If you take a look at the different pictures in the gallery you can see the racists comments towards Dashuna Barba and the short 4 min. video that is linked below of Miss Universe Japan talking about the lack of diversity in Japan it will open your mind. Holla at my social media.
