Remember Davone Bess? Wide Receiver for the Browns and Dolphins a couple years ago? Remember how suddenly, he kept having run-ins with authority figures and acting crazy? Well, he’s at it again. This time, an early morning standoff with SWAT got him taken down by a K9 unit inside his own home.

Arizona police claim that it began with a routine traffic stop (I swear I hate that terminology…it’s like you instantly roll your eyes because it’s usually not routine IMO). Bess allegedly had no headlights on around midnight near his Gilbert home. Police approached him and gave instructions, but Davone refused to comply and police claim began showing a knife out of the window of his Mercedes. Eventually, he drove home, again, not obeying police requests and a SWAT standoff ensued for several hours.

Evidently, police obtained a warrant and allowed a K9 unit to enter Bess’ residence and it bit him on the arm allowing officers to subdue him. He was taken to the hospital for the bite and a psych evaluation. The reports say that he was released and arrested; now charged with 3 felonies — endangerment, felony flight and failure to stop for a police officer, but I think this poor man needs some serious help. His family had him hospitalized against his own will back in 2013 for psychiatric reasons and the Browns put him on leave for “emotional reasons”. Could this be related to CTE?

Hope he gets the help he needs.
