Plaques on plaques on plaques. After Wale earned some gold and platinum certifications yesterday, more artists breakthrough to go gold, platinum, double & multi platinum.

Let’s start with Cole’s “Wet Dreamz” surpassing the one million singles sold mark, congrats! ScHoolboy Q’s grammy nominated Oxymoron album has also gone platinum, along with Rae Sremmurd’s debut LP, SremmLife (also with the singles “This Could Be Us,” “Throw Sum Mo,” “Come Get Her,” and “No Type,” the last of which going double platinum).

Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow” and “Roll Up” have now gone 6x platinum and 2x platinum respectively, and N.W.A.’s “Straight Outta Compton,” the title track from their legacy defining album, has also finally went platinum. To top it off, Jhene Aiko’s 2013 album, Sail Out, which is one of my personal favorites, has achieved gold status. Congrats to all the recipients!

With all these certifications being awarded it starts to beg the question though – did the RIAA’s rule change make it TOO easy for artists to hit platinum or gold marks? Or is this just how it always should have been?
