A man is now speaking out claiming he is Omar Mateen’s alleged lover. The man who is going by ‘Miguel’ states he met Mateen on an online dating site called ‘Grindr.’ Reportedly the FBI have spoken to this man but officials will not confirm this. Officials have told CBS that there have been a slew of people who have come forward saying they have had relations with Mateen.
In an interview, Miguel says he and Mateen were friends with benefits. He says the sexual relationship lasted for about 2 months. He claims they have met in an hotel about 15-20 times. Miguel says he thinks Mateen targeted Latinos because he felt rejected by Puerto Ricans. Although Mateen pledged allegiance to ISIS, Miguel says,
“I believe this is not terrorism,”
He actually says he thinks this was an act of revenge due to the fact that Mateen slept with a Puerto Rican man who he later found out was HIV positive.
“He hate gay Puerto Ricans for all the stuff he did to him. I believe this crazy horrible thing he did was for revenge.”
Miguel also says that Mateens wife knew he was gay but the father set them up with an arranged marriage. He says he and Mateen spoke on religion all the time and never did Mateen come off as violent.
“He said Muslim religion is beautiful, beautiful religion, where everything is about love. Everybody is welcome. Gay, trans, bisexual… everybody. He was looking for love,” Miguel said. “He was looking to be embraced.”
