Imagine you get to the point where you say you don’t need $3 billion. Those words were uttered by none other than Mark Cuban.
The Dallas Mavericks owner appeared on Bill Simmons “Any Given Wednesday” on HBO and discussed NBA teams being worth more than ever today. Donald Sterling’s Los Angeles Clippers were recently sold for $2 billion but Cuban says he wouldn’t sell for any amount.
Simmons: Your team was valued at $1.4 billion. I’m pretty sure you’re turning down $1.4 billion.
Cuban: Oh yeah. I mean, I’m turning down anything. But yeah…
Simmons: You’re turning down anything?
Cuban: Yeah.
Simmons: Like, would you turn down $3 billion?
Cuban: Yeah.
Simmons: You’d turn down $3 billion?!
Cuban: Yeah. What do I need $3 billion for?
Cuban bought his majority stake in the Mavericks in 2000 for $285 million and it’s now worth an estimated $1.4 billion. Cuban’s net worth is around $3.2 billion and no he wasn’t always rich, he literally was broke and built his business from the ground up. He obviously knows some things are worth more than money and he obviously loves being an NBA owner. I love him as one too, he makes things interesting.
Sidenote: I’m happy Bill Simmons is back on the air, we’re getting some gems already.
