Being tall just really paid off for Timofey Mozgov. The same guy who barely played in the NBA Finals and was a non factor the entire playoffs for the Cavs just got a crazy offer from the Lakers, who themselves are desperate to have anyone come to Los Angeles. Just for a little bit of context, Mozgov will make about $16 million dollars next season while Steph Curry makes $12 million. Sounds legit, right?

The 7-foot-1 Russian averaged 6.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 17.4 minutes in 76 regular-season games for the NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers this past season, but averaged just 5.8 minutes in the playoffs.

The Lakers needed a center to compliment their young core of D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson (who they also re-signed for $50 million this morning) and recent draft pick, Brandon Ingram. With that said, they still overpaid for Mozgov but that is the tone of the day, as many players around the league are being overpaid thanks to the higher salary cap.

The Lakers paid an eye-popping price for a soon-to-be 30-year-old center who made $4.95 million last year and has never averaged 11 points or eight rebounds per game in an NBA season.

Mozgov has shown the ability to play at times but this doesn’t feel like it will end well in Los Angeles.
