Shots fired, Mr. President. Let’s just say Cornel West is not the biggest fan of President Obama right now. Hit the jump to find out what he said.

“I thought it was weak. He’s always got to explain to white America how black people are feeling. Black people don’t feel as if we’re being treated unequally — it’s a fact that we’re being treated unequally. He sort of always has to serve in this translating role. That’s how he rolls, but that’s not how I roll.”

President Obama held a press conference about the recent shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile and later he held a press conference about the Dallas police officers. Obama mentioned the disparities African Americans face and even pulled out statistics to prove why African Americans, and even Latinos, are more discriminated againts than Whites (go to 1:45):

But for some odd reason Cornel West is criticizing the president. Maybe he was only paying attention to the Dallas police conference or maybe he felt like Obama’s words involving the shooting of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile were rehearsed and not sincere enough. West’s words:

“He’s been running from the issue for too long. When he finally gets pushed into a corner, he says something eloquent and articulate. But you’ve got to be able to hit it head on.”
