Several communities across the U.S are trying to defuse the high tension between police and civilians by hosting unity cookouts. One in Wichita, Kansas specifically was so successful that other communities want to implement it as well, hit the jump to read more.

As police communities tie together and try to make a plan to decrease turmoil, several Black Lives Matter protesters aren’t really here for it. “The First Steps” cookout in Wichita was an example of a positive step in the right direction to end police brutality, but some protesters feel like it’s useless.
One protester named Karissa Lewis said:

“Barbecues aren’t going to stop the brutality that Black folks are facing. A barbecue is definitely not going to stop this blockade.”
