Michael Phelps may be the most decorated athlete in the history of the Summer Olympic games but after all that work, sometimes you just want to go home and relax. A news channel and it’s reporter in Phoenix learned that the hard way yesterday after basically trying to ambush him for an interview when he got off the plane with his fiance and son.

3TV’s Good Morning Arizona tried to run up on Phelps for a surprise interview but they never asked him ahead of time and never checked with his manager or agent. Phelps was not in the mood and while trying to be polite, made it clear he wasn’t answering any questions.

“I’m not answering any questions, guys,” he said. “If you can give me that space, while I try to get my family home and safe, I would appreciate it. I appreciate you guys coming, but I’m trying to get my family home safe, and that’s what matters most.”

It’s funny to hear the reporter and the news team try to make the best of the awkward situation. Perhaps Phelps could have just gave them something but he was within his own right to shut it down the way he did.
