Ryan Lochte made an ass out of himself and his fellow U.S. swimming teammates after concocting a bizarre story about being robbed by men dressed as police in Rio to basically cover up their own drunken, stupid behavior. He made sure to get out of Brazil fast but his teammates weren’t so lucky, as three of them were forced to stay an extra few days, and one of them had to pay almost $11,000 to leave the country. Lochte had not been charged with a crime until yesterday but unfortunately for the authorities in Rio, they will likely never get the chance to punish him.

Lochte was formally charged with filing a false report and believe me, police there would love to make him pay for his lies and shedding a bad light on the Olympic games but they will never have the opportunity.

The charge is not an extraditable offense, meaning he can’t be forced to Brazil by American courts. Officials in Brazil have summoned Lochte but people close to him say there is no way he will ever go there.

The more likely outcome from all of this is Lochte will likely negotiate to pay a fine similar to that of his teammate, Jimmy Feigen, who paid $10,800 for his role in the incident before he was allowed to leave the country.
