Following news that Nelly was in debt with the IRS to the tune of $2.5 million, fans (and trolls – though they still helped) made a quick call to action with the trending topic #SaveNelly. Somehow, a plan to stream “Hot In Herre” as much as humanly possible was hatched, with the hopes that the streaming revenue would provide a cushion – if not total relief – for the debt.

While the plan was hilariously random, it kind of worked! Billboard reports that streams of the 2002 hit song have increased by 90%, with the first few days of the hashtag going from a normal daily average of 50,000 to 60,000 streams to a whopping 269,000. Though the streams have since tapered off, the streaming total for the week clocked in at 714k, solidifying the 90% increase. LOL!

As Spin Mag pointed out, it would take at least 287,176,547 streams to absolve the St. Louis rapper of his total debt…but hey, he’s on the way!
