He may be the most hated player in the NFL (ignorance is bliss), but one of the most notable and respected magazines in the world just decided that he’s note-worthy. Check out Kaep’s Time Magazine cover.

When one door closes, another opens. How often do you see a football player on the cover of Time Magazine? If this doesn’t catch some much needed attention to the REAL topic, I just don’t know what else will.

Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers QB has been catching all kinds of flack for his peaceful protest against inequality for people of color for the last few weeks. Some media outlets, fans, and even celebrities have tired to make it about disrespect to the flag, to the country, and even to the veterans that protect our rights. Colin himself has said over and over again what his reasoning is…so why not the cover of Time Magazine?

How else was he supposed to say so in a way that would get attention, which is rather basic to contributing to an ideological moment? Was he supposed to tweet? Say some stuff in locker-room interviews? No. The writer pens editorials. The artist crafts portraits, music or plays. The community activist marches. The athlete might wear a certain kind of shirt—or sit out the national anthem. To tar him as a traitor to the nation is as flimsy as calling a white person a racist for wearing dreadlocks.

Please read the article. It’s a well written by John McWhorter, literature associate professor at Columbia University and NOT a black man who still seems to get it…at least the overall theme. #TakeAKnee and get your copy October 3rd.
