The NFL has lost one of their family members today as former player, Quentin Groves has passed away from a heart attack at the young age of 32. Groves played for numerous teams during his eight year career after the Jaguars selected him in the second round of the 2008 NFL draft.

Before being drafted, Groves was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, which is associated with a rapid heartbeat related to electrical impulses in the heart utilizing additional pathways.

“It’s an extra circuit in the heart, and it speeds up your heartbeat, it’s nothing too critical, but you have to take care of it,” Groves said in 2008.

Groves underwent heart surgery for a procedure called an ablation. He was cleared by doctors to play, but many teams still questioned whether he was healthy enough to play.

Despite all of that, he still lasted for eight years in the league and finished his NFL career with 175 tackles, two interceptions and 9.5 sacks. Prior to the NFL, he was an All-American at Auburn University.

According to reports, he suffered the fatal heart attack while vacationing in Trinidad and celebrating his daughters birthday. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. RIP.
