Joe Thomas Sr made a promise to himself a few years ago. Joe was running a construction company in South Carolina that had it’s own training facility but the recession that came in 2008 completely wiped out his business. He decided to go back to college and get his degree and also follow through with reviving an athletic career.

He enrolled at South Carolina State back in 2012, where his son, Joe Jr, was a member of the football team. The younger Thomas now plays with the Green Bay Packers but his pops was still in school as part of the team but was yet to participate in an actual game.

That all changed today on senior day for the squad, which took on a whole new meaning with a 55 year old running back.

Joe Sr hit the field against Savannah State University and when he took the ball for a three yard carry, he became the oldest player to ever get in a division 1 game.

Before the game, his son was a little worried but was also intent on giving his dad some advice since he wouldn’t be able to be there with him.

“I am a little worried,” Joe Jr. said Friday. “I know his body might be a little fragile. I’m going to try to get the coach not to run him on one of those stretch plays. I’m going to try to get him to run straight downhill.”

Joe Jr. has been with the Packers since 2015.

“It’s been crazy for me,” Joe Jr. said. “I never thought you’d see a 55-year-old running back. I’m just proud of him. He made his mind up to do something and stuck to it.”

This is one of the better stories you will hear about for a while.
