Yasiin Bey, who most of us know as ‘Mos Def,’ is now being allowed to leave South Africa after apologizing to the government. He will now be considered a “undesirable person” and can no longer re-enter back into South Africa in the future. Earlier in the year, he was arrested after trying to leave South Africa using a World Passport.

The Home Affairs Department released a statement saying,

“[He] has unreservedly apologized to the Government of South Africa. The department is satisfied with the apology [and] will withdraw the charges against him.”

Even thought the World Service Authority has been issuing World Passports since 1954, a lot of countries do not accept the passport as a form of identity. Ecuador, Zambia, Tanzania, and other countries have accepted them before. Back in October, Bey told all his fans that he would be retiring. He re-confirmed that statement on Facebook live saying,

“I’m retiring for real this year, this week. With the 17th anniversary of Black on Both Sides being released, I am grateful to have had the career that I have been able to enjoy.”

Well this is certainly good news for Bey. Wish him all the best.
